(A): Read the statements given below which are taken from an advertisement. Write whether it states a fact or an opinion about the product. (05)

iii- Habib Milk will help you in maintaining your health.(Openion)
iv- Each pack of Habib Milk is inspected before it leaves the factory. (Fact)

(B):  Choose an article from any English newspaper, paste it in
i- What is the writer’s purpose of writing the article? (10)
ii- What is the tone of the writer? (05)

Q.No.2:

In Unit 9, there is a poem “Autumn”. Read that poem and answer the following question? (10)
i-   What is the main theme of the poem?
ii-  What descriptive words are used by the poet to highlight the effect of Autumn?
Note: There is not any poem named “Autumn” in chapter-9 of this book. What a pity that the assignment setters do not know about the contents of the given subject.

On pages 285-289, we have asked you 10 questions about newspapers. Can you answer the following 2 questions briefly? (10)
i-  What are the benefits of reading newspaper?
Ans:   Compulsory – II ( 1424) , Page 177 , Q.no 11 .
ii- What is the one most noticeable difference that you see or notice. Newspapers and TV news channels?
Ans:  Newspaper news are different from that of T.V channels news in many ways. First the update of T.V is faster than the newspapers. The T.V channels update news timely and  frequently but the newspapers can’t do so before new publication. Second the T.V news not only have the colorful pictures but also have real sound and background. On the contrary, the newspapers news*are silent and can only be read.

Go to page 295, exercise 33. Select the following samples. (10)
i- A job advertisement. News about a famous political figure.
iii- Weather forecast.
iv- A good news item.

Read Unit 6 “Academic Reading” Carefully and then answer the following questions.
Ans: Filling in the blanks.
1.  Some people do wickerwork, for example, they make baskets, toys, plates, beds, and chairs to earn money.

2.  I can play quite a few melodic gadgets, for instance, the flute, the guitar, and the piano.

3. My father loves going to restaurants which serve exotic foods. Such as, last week he went to a restaurant which serves deep-fried crabs.

ii. Read the text given in exercise 9, pages 200-202, and write the answers to the questions given at the end, (page 202).
Ans: Answers to the Questions:
1. Who do you think has written this piece? Is the writer a Pakistani, an Indian or a foreign national?
Ans:  I think the writer of this piece is a foreign national – a tourist. He has written this piece to describe the Flag ceremony daily held at the wagah border.
2. What does the writer mean when writing:
i.  I knew a little of the history between Pakistan and India and have heard about one of the greatest spectacles that happens daily between the two neighboring countries at the Wagah border.
Ans:  The writer is unaware of the hostile past of the two nations, Pakistan and India. The feelings of their bitter enmity are demonstrated daily at the Wagah border.
ii. This was pure theatre between the once and sometimes still warring nations. And it was fantastic!.
Ans:  The ceremony held at the wagah border is quite fantastic despite severe enmity between two warring nations.

Go to pages 198-199, exercise 8. Thit is a pre reading exercise. Look,at the picture carefully and write a short  (10)
